According to co founders Rande Gerber and George Clooney, the “mezcal was brought to [them] by a family that has made it for five generations. It’s extremely smooth, small-batch, with the perfect smokiness and easy to drink.”

Don Amado Mezcal Rustico$13.00

The nose hints at smoke, but the overproof alcohol level balances that out by adding quite a bit of fire, at least at first blush. On the body, that heat isn’t anywhere nearly that overpowering. Instead, it’s a very pretty silver mezcal, not particularly smoky but rather well balanced among light ember notes, citrus, applewood, and a bit of marshmallow cream on the back end.

Artisan-made in small batches in Oaxaca, Mexico, with a real scorpion in every bottle. This version spends a minimum of one year aging in oak barrels.
